    January 6, 1824: Gottlieb Heileman was born in Wurttemberg, Germany. He immigrated to the U.S. in 1852, settling in La Crosse in 1857. He established the City Brewing Co. with J. Gund in 1858. The name was changed to G. Heileman Brewing Co. in 1871.
